If you enjoy home decor, you know that styling it gives it that finished look. Little details make a big difference, and controlling the clutter that sometimes accompanies functional items is necessary. One of the most versatile and stylish accessories you can incorporate into your space is the décor box. These little treasures are more than just storage solutions; they’re key elements in creating a cohesive and organized home.
Decor boxes help to elevate your home by providing:
1. Stylish Organization:
- A place for everything and everything in its place. Décor boxes marry form and function and provide a stylish way to keep your space organized, helping you declutter while adding an aesthetic touch. Hide remotes in the living room, jewellery on your dresser, or office supplies on your desk, décor boxes make sure everything has its place.
2. Versatility:
- The beauty of décor boxes lies in their versatility. They come in various sizes, materials, and designs, allowing you to mix and match according to your heart’s desire. If you’re deliberate about the material you use, you can repurpose the boxes for years to come. I prefer materials that age well like leather, stone and wood but there are numerous options available.
3. Concealing Clutter:
- Even the most meticulously curated spaces can fall victim to clutter, especially visual clutter. Décor boxes offer an elegant solution by concealing those little bits and pieces that can make a space feel busy. By hiding away the clutter, décor boxes help maintain a clean and streamlined look.
4. Layering and Texture:
- Décor boxes can add depth and texture to your space. When layered on shelves, coffee tables, or side tables, they bring in an extra dimension that can make your space feel more dynamic and visually interesting.
Where to Use Décor Boxes Around Your Home:
1. In the Living Room:
- Use a stack of decorative boxes on your coffee table to store remote controls, coasters, tissues or other small items. This keeps your table clutter-free while adding a stylish element to the room. You can also place a few boxes on a bookshelf or side table to create a more curated look. We also hide batteries, matches and extra chargers for convenient use in the living room.
2. In the Bedroom:
- On your dresser or bedside table, use a décor box to store jewelry, watches, or other small accessories. It’s a chic way to keep your essentials organized and easily accessible. My bedside table is a hub of activity and I keep everything from nighttime skincare bits to chargers, nail care, supplements, jewellery, hair ties, remotes and writing paraphernalia there. Decor boxes keeps the surface visually appealing and clutter free.
3. In the Office:
- Keep your desk tidy by using décor boxes to store stationery, cables, or important documents. Opt for boxes that match your office décor to create a cohesive and professional look. Stacking boxes can also create additional storage without taking up too much space. I ordered wicker boxes years ago to store my files rather than using the plastic bins and I haven’t regretted it once.
4. In the Bathroom:
- Bathrooms often suffer from clutter due to the number of small items like makeup, toiletries, and hair accessories. Use décor boxes to keep these items organized and out of sight. Choose moisture-resistant materials like acrylic or treated wood to ensure they hold up in a damp environment and can be easily cleaned. Stay away from anything that is too textured because it may give cold a great place to hide.
5. In the Entryway:
- The entryway is the first area you see when you enter your home, so it’s important to keep it organized. Your keys, your husband’s bits and bobs, loose change, gum, sunscreen and sunglasses can all be stored in decor boxes. It’s a simple way to make sure everything you need is always in one place.

Final Thoughts:
I’ll never recommend a fake/hollow book to serve as a decor box because there’s nothing more disappointing than a fake book. Plus a box that looks like a box will always be easier to use. Cardboard and papier mache boxes may end up looking more like a craft project than a grown-up piece of decor so choose carefully if you are venturing into that territory.
Décor boxes are more than just a storage solution; they’re a stylish way to bring organization, texture, and personality into your home. By thoughtfully incorporating them into different areas of your space, you can create a more cohesive and clutter-free environment. So next time you’re looking to add a little something extra to your home, consider the humble décor box – a small accessory with a big impact.
‘til next time,
