I recently visited Sephora in person and was shocked to see that the ‘clean beauty’ section no longer existed because so many products now had that classification. I love this, and I figured a good way to add to the conversation is to start sharing my clean beauty favourites more regularly. I’ll share makeup and skincare separately so its easier to reference. Let’s dive in:
Makeup
Favourite Blush: Merit Beauty Flush Balm in any color. I love blush - it was my first foray into beauty and I just love how it can transform your face in one go. The Merit Beauty blushes are gorgeous. I picked up the mini trio in Sephora but you really can’t go wrong with any shade. The formula is a smooth sheer balm rather than a cream and it just glides onto your skin and blends out with your fingers or a brush. You can layer on more than one colour to customise a shade or you can go light in the morning and heavier for night.
Favourite Lippie: Summer Fridays in brown sugar. Summer Fridays is going viral for a reason. They got the lipgloss/balm fusion formula *just right*. It’s a great wash of colour, with a non-sticky feel that lasts and actually moisturises your lips - and the fact that it’s clean, vegan and woman-owned is the best cherry on top
Favourite Powder/Foundation: Bare Minerals Pro - I haven’t heard much about BareMinerals online lately but it still remains a reliable clean brand with a pretty impressive span of shades. Now, I probably won’t ever wear foundation every day just because I don’t think I need to and I don’t like the idea of covering up my face with too many products, but I will always recommend bare minerals powder with a stippling brush. The coverage is buildable and is never cake-y. Unfortunately its definitely a use it/lose it product because powder expires or oxidizes fairly quickly, but I really don’t have an issue spending my money with BareMinerals.
Favourite Eyeshadow: Merit Beauty Solo Shadow- the formula is pigmented enough to use as eyeliner or eyeshadow. I don’t love the brush they pair with it for eyeliner or precise application but if you already have an eyeliner brush it will work just fine.
Favourite Mascara: Milk Beauty Kush High Volume Mascara - I wouldn’t have picked this up but I got it as part of a birthday gift set from Sephora, and the mini version just blew me away. This makes your lashes FATTTT and is never a pain to take off at the end of the night. I couldn’t recommend it more.
Gaps in my bag: I’m still looking for a good liquid eyeliner that is silicone free and non-toxic/clean, and a creamy concealer for my under-eyes. I haven’t quite committed to switching over to clean lipsticks/lip stains yet because I don’t want to sacrifice on pigment but I am open to trying any that look good.
Still on my list to try are: Saie blush, Kosas concealer and anything from Glossier. What product are you curious about?
til next time,
Jan
