Hi.

Welcome, I’d love to hear from you so don’t be shy leave me a comment!

What We Watched: August Series

Summer can typically disrupt our normal schedules so I like to find a good series to go back to at the end of the day to help jumpstart an unwind in the evening.

Here are new and older shows and movies we enjoyed in August:

The Summer I Turned Pretty (season 2)

The press for this has been massive. Amazon did something pretty interesting with this - they created a whole aesthetic behind the series, and if you are watching this on a connected device, you can shop things from the show (not just merch) right from your device along with a one-tap playlist download directly from any episode.

The drama for Belly continues in this season but we get to see more character development and a focus on enjoying life even while carrying grief. I haven’t hopped on either Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah because #priorities but Jeremiah is certainly in the lead.

Stream this on Amazon Prime.

Brooklyn 99

Silly, hilarious slapstick comedy. Witty comebacks and action for a funny escape at the end of the work day. Fun fact - Detective Rosa Diaz is the voice of Miracle from Encanto and you legitimately CANNOT tell. Her voice work is impeccable and her character is the complete opposite.

We stream it on Netflix.

The After Party

The first season was very funny. This season gives a few laughs but sits between bizarre comedy with a little mystery threaded through. A new episode is released weekly and every time I think I know who the killer is, they throw in a twist. Think of it like the game of clue but hosted by Tiffany Haddish.

Watch it on Apple TV.

Jack Ryan

I was hooked from the first season. John Krasinski adds a layer of earnestness to Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan that makes you want to root for him in increasingly complex moral dilemmas as he fights for his country. Each character is well thought out, but this is definitely not a show you put on in the background because if you blink you might miss an important part of the plot.

I’m sad to see that this is the last season, but the writers did a very good job in wrapping it up well. Kudos to the entire cast. Watch it on Prime Video.

UP NEXT on my watchlist:

  • The Diplomat (on Netflix)

  • Sweet Magnolias (new season on Netflix)

  • The Crowded Room (on Apple TV)

  • The Consultant (on Prime Video)
