So, by now I think we’ve all heard about ‘hot girl summer’ and while the only things I have taken from it are hot girl walks (something that seriously helps if you struggle with anxiety or depression); and a great playlist for the said hot girl walks, I will continue to defend the trend because I Stan anything positive that celebrates a new season. That said, while I enjoy the vibe, I was not much of a participant - it felt like a little too much work to move from tired corporate millennial mom to ‘hot girl’.
However, I was scrolling through TikTok, as one does now, and came across a new (to me) term that felt a little more relatable to my vibe - Soft Girl Summer. The Millenial that I am, I left TikTok to go to Google to get more information. Apparently a ‘soft girl’ is someone who revels in her femininity and her style reflects that. She also adopts a more wellness-based and slower lifestyle, enjoys intimate gatherings and personal connections. Hello, yes. I can integrate that into my life. There are a bunch of opinions on what makes a ‘soft girl’ but in my view, this vibe would be if we smushed Lisa Frank, OG Martha Stewart and Sofia Richie together OR in 3 simple words:
Feminine Elegant Playful
So then I got inspired to really do up summer the way I used to when I was younger. Citrus scents, candy colours, friendship bracelets, platform sandals, fun bags and all the random games nights and spontaneous hangs that were the hallmark of summer. I’m leaning into that vibe (happily!) but in a less chaotic way. I am making my bucket list, but also building out some habits that should last me well beyond summer’s end.
God willing, my soft girl summer will mean:
more time outside and more florals inside
fun summery salads, drinks and snacks (I’ll share recipes on my IG)
an epic bucket list
saying yes to more link ups
random beach trips and pool dips
a workout that I actually enjoy each day ( I’m thinking barre, pilates, swimming)
outside games (badminton and tennis for sure. I may make a corn hole game)
more light fabrics and florals
setting the table, using the ‘fancy stuff’ and eating outside
defeating the mosquitoes and settling into a personal care routine
I will be sharing everything that fits into this vibe regularly on my instagram and at least once a week here on the blog. I’ll also put together a bucket list that we can ALL do on ANY budget.
So, have I convinced you? Are we doing Soft Girl Summer together?
til later,
Jan
