Hi.

Welcome, I’d love to hear from you so don’t be shy leave me a comment!

In My Shower: Osea Undaria Algae Body Oil

The name is a little bit of a mouthful but let me tell y’all about this oil!!! Firstly, you absolutely do not need this - unless you do.

I pulled the trigger on this everything oil when my skin was literally at its worst. I had returned to the heat from a bomb cyclone after the Christmas/New Year holidays and my shins were stripping - I had never seen this before. I tried my usual no-fail heavy creams, then did exfoliation and heavy moisturising but my skin just got worse. The skin on the rest of my legs were dull and itchy, my eczema on my arms had returned and I knew I needed to try something different. Previously, I loved the cocoa butter body oil and the neutropenia body oil but as I learned more about ingredients, I fell out of love with them.

I was looking for a cleaner alternative and Osea kept coming up online. The reviews were great and Amazon was running a promo, so I bought the 5.9 oz bottle and dove in. Undaria algae body oil has seaweed extract, grapeseed oil, sunflower seed oil, rice bran oil, linseed oil, other oils, antioxidants and essential fatty acids which all help to moisturise and nourish the skin.

I have a very specific way I like to use Body Oils, so here it is:

  • First application - I shower and exfoliate with sugar or my exfoliating mitt. Regular application, I  just shower

  • I wipe the water off with just my hands (no towel yet)

  • I pump out the amount I need, warm the oil up in my hands and massage it into my skin

  • I then pat myself dry making sure not to wipe the oil off

For areas that are struggling really badly, I follow up with a light cream but after maybe the first week, I really didn’t need to. For me, here’s what makes this body oil special:

  • ingredients are mostly clean (read more about the ratings here)

  • its fast absorbing and doesn’t sit on top of the skin

  • does not clog pores at all

  • does not stain my towel and does not transfer

  • does not make me feel all slippery (like baby oil)

  • I actually saw an improvement in the texture of my skin in about 12 days. I felt a difference right away.

  • the product comes in a matte glass bottle with a pump so the packaging is sustainable and practical and the bottle won’t slip out of your hands in the shower

Here’s what I didn’t like:

  • The size: the body oil was lightweight enough for me to use everyday, so I went through the product very quickly. I would like a bigger size, but I am not seeing it on Amazon. Osea Malibu has a 9.6oz size on their website www.oseamalibu.com but whew

  • The price: like I said above the price. It kind of hurts to buy it at full price when you convert to Jamaica dollars and then add the cost of shipping and customs charges. It hurts. Is it worth it - absolutely. Does that make it any easier? Nope!

  • I am not seeing refills - since I already have a glass bottle, I don’t need new glass bottles with product. I did however notice that there is a subscription option for the large size so perhaps those have refills. (If you know, please let me know)

I want to repurchase this in the jumbo size so I will be keeping an eye out for discounts and trying not to cry about shipping costs. You can try out a smaller size for under $20 here. If you do, let me know what you think.
