To everyone who has moved with me from my previous spot on the internet, hello!
I dallied for a while on what I wanted to write about for my first blog post. I’m in a weird stage of my life - I’ve chosen to go the entrepreneur route and pursue some of my passions. The memes of the entrepreneur journey being a roller-coaster ride are so on point, with each day very different from the one before and doubt knocking at my door like a scorned persistent lover.
You’re told to expect varied reactions from persons when you go off on your own, especially if the job you left behind is cushy and comes with all the perks. So far, this too has been right. I am a wife and a mother, but I am also trained as an Attorney-at-Law and I’ve spent almost a decade in the practice of law. Living in the Caribbean, telling someone that you’re an Attorney comes with a myriad of assumptions. Add to that, the cultural and societal assumptions of who a mother is, and who a wife is.
In that light, here are 5 things I wish people knew about me:
Finding Solutions is my Jam: I’ve never met a riddle I didn’t love and I genuinely believe there is a solution to every problem;
I’m an introvert: I re-energize when I’m alone and/or silent. I can legitimately sit with you for a day and say nothing without being mad at you.
I’m Confrontational: I believe this is linked to my wanting to find solutions. If I have an issue with you, I’ll raise it. If it’s a personal issue and I don’t think you care I will probably just move on. Maybe.
I am energized by creativity and ‘what if’ conversations: I LOVE to daydream. This is basically what I’m doing when I’m sitting silently beside you.
I am more than my job/profession: I wish people would see this. I only wear my lawyer hat when I’m in Court, Mediation, Hearings or Negotiations. I don’t wear it with friends or family, strangers or children.
What is something you wish people knew about you or appreciated about you? Leave me a comment and let me get to know you!
